Welcome

Charing Cross Practice has now been open for nearly 5 years seeing patients referred for endodontic and prosthodontic treatments. The dentists at the practice are Maya Desai and Barbara Swistak who both have M.Sc.’s in Endodontics from the Eastman Institute and Richard Crosby who has a Prosthetics M.Sc. also from the Eastman.

Thanks to all referring practitioners who have helped to make the practice a success.

New Treatment Room

We have just completed the installation of our second surgery. This is primarily dedicated to removable prosthetic dental care. We do also plan to increase our flexibility by using this surgery for new patient consultations.

As well as an easy access dental unit the room incorporates a small prosthetics laboratory area. This gives the option of providing chairside treatments beyond the scope of most surgeries without an on site lab.

www.chxpractice.co.uk

We have set up a new website with information for patients and dentists alike. If you refer a patient, then directing them to the website can be a useful way of letting them know what to expect when they come to see us.

We know from the referral forms we receive that some people still have some very old copies of our stationary. The forms are downloadable from the website. Just go to the endodontics or prosthetics section and click on the button at the top of the page. If you ring us we’ll still of course send you a supply of forms but if you’re in a hurry the website's the answer.

The Link to Poringland Practice ends

Many people will be aware that our referral service for endodontics started 11 years ago and operated from Poringland Dental Practice. The number of referrals had grown and so five years ago we opened Charing Cross Practice as a dedicated, referral only, practice.

Continued growth has meant that we have now parted company with Poringland Dental Practice. The Poringland Practice has been sold and no longer has any connection with Charing Cross. This gives us the time we need to concentrate on the challenging cases you send to us.

Parking Improves

Parking in the city centre is always a problem

Now with the re-opening of the Duke Street car park the practice problems are solved. There are now 1200 spaces less than 50 yards away.

Meetings Report

Richard is a member of the British Society for the Study of Prosthetic Dentistry. The annual meeting was held this year in Cardiff. A symposium led by Professor Jan de Boever from Ghent on temporomandibular disorders and their relationship with occlusion and prosthetic dentistry started the meeting. A presentation from Dr Bob Clark of GKT and the ensuing discussion highlighted the challenges in undergraduate teaching of prosthetic dentistry. Undergraduates are undertaking less clinical work of all types and many have very limited experience of denture construction. There were further presentations relating, amongst other things, to mandibular advancement devices for treatment of sleep apnoea, implant and forensic dentistry.

Maya and Barbara are members of the British Endodontic Society and the Langham Endodontic Society. Over the past year they have both attended all the society’s meetings, where speakers such as J.O.Andreasan, Pierre Machtou and Martin Trope have imparted valuable knowledge and tips. In September they are both attending the European Endodontic Society Conference in Dublin to participate in hands on sessions with Cliff Ruddle on rotary instrumentation and Proffessor Velvart’s session on endodontic microsurgery.

Thanks

Thank you again for your support that has helped us develop our service. If you haven’t referred a patient to us yet, next time you are struggling with a complete denture or a difficult molar endo, remember there is a local alternative. If you want to talk to us about a case then we are only a phone call away. We like a challenge!
